But… we make good girlfriends too!

People, people, we have to talk. Really, it’s about time! Remember the time I complained about the fact that only curvy women are real women? Well, a while ago we got part two. A friend of mine read fifteen reasons why short girls are better girlfriends. There was some logic in these reasons, I have to admit that. But still! I decided to spread the word about why tall girls are also awesome. (Because we want to be loved too…!) Being tall myself, I think there are plenty of reasons why being tall is awesome. Plenty!

Just don’t go asking which ones I have in mind.

Luckily there’s the Great Internet to help me out! This list of 15 Benefits of Being A Tall Girl is the best one for sure. The first reason it mentions is the fact that we are just badass – straight to the point! Because you see, we are pretty badass. We are slightly intimidating, we look like we could be professional basket ball players (those who know me will know that I am not…) and we can reach the highest shelve. Isn’t that brilliant? In our appartment here in Poland, I get to use all the top shelves, and I like that. We’re badass because we’re independent because we can take whatever we want from whatever shelve. There ya go.

It makes you a badass.

We’re pretty baddas. From the article linked to above.

Until a certain moment, I wasn’t too fond of wearing heels. Since I moved away for university, I suddenly noticed that I’m actually very tall, and not just quite tall. Not feeling the need to be looking over everyone, I didn’t wear heels for a while. But then along came my love for heels again, and I stopped caring. These days I’m wearing my winter boots with heels quite a lot, mainly because it’s winter. I don’t have a bike here, so I walk around the city on heels.

And you know what?

It feels great. As the article states, you feel like a super model. I can’t help feeling damn well when wearing heels. Even if I intimidate people, well, it’s not that bad, right? I’d rather have them be impressed than to laugh at me. So up the heels! It helps that in Eastern Europe, you’re never the only one wearing heels, and you’re never the one wearing the highest.

It also seems to be true that you can eat a lot and you’ll still be slim. Especially here I eat a lot. Really, a lot. Bit it’s okay, so far I still don’t get fatter. I have enough length to divide the weight. And because of this I also have legs to be proud of. Every skirt you buy will be way shorter on you than on the others, but hey, at least you have the legs to rock it!

So, let’s keep the positive vibe for tall girls going! And of course, also for the short girls and everything in between. I’m not trying to say we’re the best, but I felt like a little response would do no harm 😉

Scrubbin’, waxin’, workin’ it

Is beauty in the eye of the beholder or is it in the bottles in your bathroom closet?

Let me tell you a secret: there is much more to beauty than makeup. Manipulation starts way before that and can be very subtle. I never took part in the madness, unti I recently discovered that actually, I do…

You see, on thing that makes you really pretty, is a flawless skin. That is something you can barely fake with foundation and concealer. The best way to have a flawless skin, is to just have it. How? Well, you should ask someone else for good information, because I don’t have a flawless skin. I do use a peeling with dead sea minerals from Obey Your Body, and that stuff is good. It takes of the dead skin without it feeling like you are rubbing sand on your face. The skin on my nose had the tendency to look aggressive, but that really improved with this peeling.

I use a body scrub as well, though I don’t really see the effect of that one. Your skin feels a little softer, but it doesn’t seem to have a spectacular effect. You never know though, I believe it’s a healthy thing to do still.

A flawless skin also means without hair, if you think of legs. And so the adventure with pink wax starts… It hurts a little, doesn’t rip out everything, but in the end the effect seems to last quite a while. Thank god. There seems to be a new ‘movement’ of women not shaving their legs. Though I think it’s very freeing, I can’t bring myself to doing it. Having soft legs is something I do for myself too.

There are also even more subtle beauty tricks than these. I started polishing my finger nails – not with nail polish. Together with the Obey Your Body peeling we got a sort of cube. You have to rub three sides of it on your finger nail, however that may seem, and then your finger nails will shine. Very subtle, but it does look good. No shiny nail polish needed. It makes your finger nails look very clean.

And then there is the hair mask from Lush. It promises to ‘light up’ your hair, if you have blonde hair. I’ve always been blonde, but it gets darker every year, and I don’t like this evolution. So I am trying to light up my hair. It does seem to have a paler, lighter shine, so I believe it works. Of course it doesn’t turn you into a bleached blonde, but okay, the product never said it would do such magic tricks.

So you see, I’m guilty of manipulation you wouldn’t even notice when you see me. Of course I can’t live without makeup either, without mascara I don’t have eyes and I like some soft glitter as well, but that is manipulation you can trace. I don’t think all the products mentioned above are makeup, but they have a good effect and make you shine more. Shining is nice.
It does take some time, but not as much as it may sound, luckily. Shining isn’t as far away as it may seem!

So, is beauty in the eye of the beholder, or in the peeling/scrub/nail polisher/… in your bathroom closet?
Probably in both…

Note: fear no dance clips or dance talk! I will only talk about the weird things you start to do when you are a dancer. Because it affects your life in the weirdest way… I have been dancing for twelve years now, and let’s take a look at the weird habits I’ve got now thanks to that.

1. Looking at feet and legs and having full conversations about them

Nice feet and legs are important in dance. Archy feet are admired. So you can easily spot dancers: when you hear someone having an entire conversations on feet, it’s prettyy safe to say you found him. Plus: as a dancer you tend to look at legs and feet, whether they belong to a boy or girl, and judge them by how they’d work out in dance.

2. Random arm movements

My arms are my weak spot in dance, so I tend to train movements when I’m not using them. Mostly when I’m studying or moving from spot A to spot B. My family is used to that by now, but I sometimes forget that I shouldn’t do that when there are other people around…

3. Moving from spot A to B by pirouettes

Or arabesques. Or piqués. Or whatever. It’s very hard not to throw in some moves when you get the chance. Though just like the arm movements, you should watch out where you’re doing that…

4. “I can’t have short hair, how am I supposed to tie it up in a bun then!?”

Look. This is a nice leg and a good foot. Not hyperflexible, but with a nice line. From Pointe Magazine I believe. Ekaterina Kondaurova.

5. Appreciating the smell of hairspray

It’s the smell of performances, so it’s a good smell, because performing is fun. I really like the scent, though I’m probably one of the few people in this world…

6. Turning out your legs when waiting in line

Why not train your turn out when you get the chance, right? Turnout is not as easy as it looks. So when you’re waiting in line, it’s the perfect setting to train it. Unless you don’t like to get weird looks, that is.

7. Having an extended knowlegde of classical music and French

It’s not unusual to like classical music, but as a classical dancer, chances are high that you know more about it than your neighbour, to name someone. You hear it so often, dance to it, see performances with it, it’s just a common thing. Right?
Everything in ballet has a French name, so wherever you live, you will know a bit of French.

8. Judging music on it’s ‘danceability’

I tend to like music when I can dance to it. I know I like music a whole lot when I really, really, want to dance to it. That’s why dubstep is a no-go for me. You can only dance it to it when you’re high or drunk, which I am not. So what’s the fuss about then? I also see movements in my head when hearing music. Thinking about dancers can keep me busy until I fall alseep. Making up random choreographies to the music playing in my head. It’s very calming.

They should put a warning on dance. ‘Affects your life in a serious way!’

So what are your hobbies and what weird habits have you got because of them?

Inspiration came when discussing feet over here.
